Accessing UNM Learning Central: A Comprehensive Guide for UNM Affiliates and Students

For individuals needing access to University of New Mexico (UNM) online services, such as Learning Central and LoboWeb, it’s important to understand the necessary roles within the Banner system. Standard Guest NetIDs are not sufficient for accessing these specific platforms. This guide outlines the process for obtaining access, particularly focusing on Unm Learning Central for affiliates and students.

For visitors or individuals without an active staff, student, or faculty role at UNM, gaining access requires an affiliate role. The sponsoring department at UNM must initiate this request through the appropriate UNM data entry center. Once the data entry center processes the request and creates the Banner record with the assigned affiliate role, the individual can establish their UNM NetID online, typically the following day. For Health Sciences Center (HSC) affiliates, UNM NetIDs are created for them directly. It’s important to note that access to UNM Learning Central may take up to 48 hours after the NetID creation to be fully provisioned.

A crucial point for departments requesting affiliate roles is the requirement of a Social Security Number (SSN) on the affiliate form. For foreign scholars or students without a current SSN, a unique UNM assigned SSN equivalent, often referred to as a dummy or 000 number, should be requested concurrently. Accurate provisioning of a NetID necessitates the affiliate’s date of birth and SSN (or dummy record) to be listed in the Banner record alongside the active affiliate role.

Students requiring access to UNM Learning Central have specific procedures depending on their program. Students enrolled in medical programs are automatically granted access to Learning Central. However, students who need access for prerequisites, projects, or volunteer work require a different approach. In these cases, the sponsoring department should request the AFIL_CONTRACTOR_LRN_CTRL role for the student from the HR Service Center. Upon HR adding this role to the Banner record, access to UNM Learning Central will be provisioned within approximately two business days. Students will then use their existing UNM NetID to access the platform. To initiate this process, the department needs to complete both the Staff Affiliate Data Entry Request and the Affiliate Demographic Form (ADF) on behalf of the student.

To ensure your request is directed to the correct department, here is a breakdown of the data entry centers and the affiliate roles they manage:
