Exploring the Gorman Learning Center: Your Questions Answered

Understanding the Gorman Learning Center Program

At Gorman Learning Center, we champion personalized education to suit the unique needs of each student. Our program is designed to be flexible and supportive, ensuring every child can thrive in their learning journey. Each family and student is paired with a dedicated Personalized Learning Teacher (PLT) who acts as a guide and mentor throughout the educational process. The PLT collaborates closely with parents or guardians to develop a customized learning plan. This plan encompasses core subject curriculum and can integrate various supplementary learning methods. These may include hands-on workshops, online resources, community-based classes, personalized tutoring, and more, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience. The PLT is responsible for assigning tasks for each learning period, and students are expected to complete these assignments using the provided resources and support services, fostering independence and responsibility in their learning.

Parent/Guardian Responsibilities at Gorman Learning Center

Active parental involvement is a cornerstone of the Gorman Learning Center approach. We believe that parents and guardians are integral partners in their child’s education. While Gorman Learning Center provides the structure and resources, parents/guardians are responsible for the daily instruction, guidance, and supervision of their students. To maintain close communication and ensure progress, regular meetings with the Personalized Learning Teacher are essential. Students and their parents/guardians are required to meet with their PLT in person once a month, with meetings occurring at least every 20 days. This collaborative approach ensures that at least 80% or more of the student’s core education takes place within the home environment, fostering a strong home-school connection. Furthermore, parents/guardians play a crucial role in the daily assessment of their student’s work, including scoring and/or correcting assignments to reinforce learning and identify areas for improvement.

Curriculum Choices at Gorman Learning Center

Gorman Learning Center understands that a one-size-fits-all approach to curriculum doesn’t work. We are committed to offering a diverse and extensive range of curriculum options for parents/guardians to choose from. In partnership with their Personalized Learning Teacher, parents/guardians can select curriculum that best aligns with their student’s individual learning style, interests, and needs. Gorman Learning Center utilizes core curriculum that is fully aligned with the California State Standards, ensuring academic rigor and comprehensive coverage of essential subjects. The core subject areas include Math, Language Arts/English, Science, Social Studies/History, and Physical Education, providing a solid foundation across all key disciplines. This flexible curriculum approach empowers parents to tailor education to their child’s specific requirements, maximizing their learning potential.
