At Campfield Early Learning Center, we are proud to offer the Traditional Head Start program, a comprehensive part-day initiative designed to prepare children aged 3-5 for school success. Operating Monday through Thursday with morning (8:30am – 12pm) and afternoon (12pm – 3:30pm) sessions, our program meticulously aligns with the school readiness standards set by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).
Our curriculum at Campfield Early Learning Center is thoughtfully structured around essential skills, actively engaging families as vital partners in each child’s healthy growth and development. By fostering strong collaboration with parents and cultivating high-quality classroom environments, we empower children to thrive. We lay a robust foundation by teaching age-appropriate fundamentals, including:
- Reading: Developing phonological awareness through letter sounds, exploring word families, fostering a love for reading and being read to, and building book awareness.
- Writing: Mastering letter formation, understanding spacing, differentiating between upper and lowercase letters, and grasping basic punctuation.
- Math: Building numeracy skills through number recognition, counting, grouping objects, understanding basic addition and subtraction, and introducing fundamental math facts.
- Circle and Small Group Time: Enhancing social skills and knowledge through name recognition activities, learning about calendars, engaging in dramatic play, singing educational songs, exploring science concepts, and enjoying library time.
- Health & Wellness: Integrating the “I Am Moving, I Am Learning” curriculum, which reinforces academic skills through music and movement. We prioritize daily outdoor play, swimming opportunities (where available), physical education, and more, thanks to the generous support from Giant Food’s Our Family Foundation.
- Arts & Humanities: Encouraging creativity and cultural appreciation through activities like replicating masterpieces, finger painting, and engaging in various crafts.
