Our Play-Based Curriculum: Learning Through Discovery
Our curriculum at Holly Springs Learning Center is thoughtfully designed around the principles of learning through discovery and play. We utilize theme-based, hands-on lessons that empower children to make independent choices and actively participate in their education. Every child is encouraged to engage in all classroom activities and learning centers, fostering a well-rounded learning experience.
Through play, both in designated centers and outdoors, children develop essential social skills, refine fine and gross motor skills, and are gently guided in conflict resolution. Basic skills in math, science, social studies, handwriting, and pre-reading are seamlessly integrated into daily lessons and routines, ensuring a holistic approach to early childhood education. We believe that learning is most effective when it’s achieved through developmentally appropriate practices, catering to the individual needs of each child within our care.
We strive for every child to experience individual successes while also developing an awareness of others and a strong sense of community. We nurture behaviors appropriate for group settings and cultivate a genuine love of learning through both self-directed and teacher-led activities. At Holly Springs Learning Center, we are committed to ensuring that children have fun, feel nurtured, and become completely comfortable and confident in their learning environment.
Comprehensive Learning Programs for Every Age
Holly Springs Learning Center offers tailored programs to support your child’s development at every stage:
Infant Program: Nurturing Beginnings
Our Infant Program warmly welcomes babies from 6 weeks old, providing a loving and nurturing introduction to the learning environment. Our dedicated teachers are committed to providing personalized care, attending to each baby’s individual physical needs – including diapering, feeding, and napping – while actively supporting their developmental milestones. Through gentle conversation, soothing music, and engaging motor skill activities, we create meaningful interactions that stimulate and comfort your baby. We understand the importance of routine, and your baby’s schedule is thoughtfully based on the routine you establish at home, ensuring consistency and comfort.
We provide individual cribs with fresh linens (changed daily or as needed), age-appropriate toys and equipment, burp cloths, and a team of caring, knowledgeable staff who are passionate about infant development. Parents are responsible for supplying bottles, baby food, diapers, diaper creams, wipes, and extra clothing to ensure their little one is always comfortable and prepared. Our teacher-to-infant ratio is 1:5, allowing for focused and attentive care.
Toddler Program: Exploring Independence
Designed for children confidently walking, eating table food, drinking from a cup, and at least one year old, our Toddler Program focuses on balancing a toddler’s natural drive for independent exploration with supportive guidance from our caregivers. We provide the essential tools needed for successful social interaction and early learning experiences.
In our vibrant toddler classroom, teachers prioritize language development, utilizing sign language and simple words to facilitate effective communication. We encourage self-help skills, model healthy habits, and actively support the development of gross motor skills through play and movement. Toddlers are joyfully introduced to art projects and thrive in a structured environment featuring engaging learning centers and a consistent daily routine, fostering a sense of security and predictability.
Our program promotes age-appropriate interactions by offering multiples of popular toys, creating dedicated spaces for both active and quiet play, providing a variety of free play activities, ensuring smooth transitions between activities, establishing simple and clear rules, and maintaining proper supervision. All of these elements are carefully designed to prevent conflicts and guide positive behavior.
If a child exhibits challenging behaviors such as biting, our staff is trained to gently redirect the child towards more acceptable group behaviors, teaching valuable social skills. The school provides all nutritious food, healthy snacks, sippy cups, and comfortable rest mats. Parents are responsible for bringing crib-sized sheets, a water bottle, nap blankets, diapers, diaper creams, wipes, and changes of clothing. To keep parents informed and connected, daily communication via our interactive app provides a detailed record of food intake, diaper changes, and nap times. Our teacher-to-toddler ratio is 1:6, ensuring individualized attention and care.
Two-Year-Old Program: Building Social Skills and Independence
Our Two-Year-Old Program is specifically crafted to channel the boundless energy and curiosity of busy toddlers, focusing on crucial developmental areas. Language development takes center stage, with teachers actively encouraging children to communicate effectively by using phrases like, “Use your words” and “How does that make you feel?” We empower children to express their emotions and frustrations verbally, guiding them to articulate feelings like, “I don’t like that!” instead of resorting to physical reactions, fostering emotional intelligence.
As toddlers increasingly engage in social and interactive play, they begin to learn how to replace behaviors like biting or hitting with verbal communication and problem-solving skills. Simultaneously, they master essential social skills such as sharing and taking turns, crucial for successful peer interactions. Alongside this significant growth in social skills, they also begin to cultivate a stronger sense of independence, preparing them for future learning environments.
Potty training is an integral part of our Two-Year-Old Program. Children are patiently taught to recognize when they need to use the potty, manage their own clothing, practice proper hygiene by cleaning up after themselves, develop dressing independence, and learn essential table manners, building self-sufficiency and practical life skills.
We continue to support the ongoing development of gross motor skills while thoughtfully introducing more refined fine motor tasks. Activities include using scissors safely, exploring with crayons, markers, and paintbrushes, and properly using utensils, preparing them for more complex tasks. Letters and numbers are organically woven into daily conversations and activities, and foundational academic concepts are introduced through engaging themed units, making learning fun and relevant.
At this program level, Holly Springs Learning Center provides nutritious meals, healthy snacks, comfortable rest mats, high-quality art supplies, and all other necessary materials. Parents are responsible for providing crib-sized sheets, warm blankets, extra clothing changes, diapers, wipes, and diaper creams to ensure their child’s comfort and preparedness throughout the day. Our teacher-to-student ratio is 1:9, allowing for personalized guidance and support.
Preschool Program: Preparing for Kindergarten
Our Preschool Program, designed for three and four-year-olds, strategically focuses on developing crucial fine and gross motor skills, expanding vocabulary through rich language experiences, introducing fundamental math concepts, engaging in pre-writing activities, and comprehensively preparing children for the exciting transition to Kindergarten. Our curriculum is thoughtfully based on engaging themed units and incorporates hands-on learning across various domains, including art, dramatic play, math/manipulatives, blocks, reading, writing, computers, and science/sensory centers.
We provide nutritious lunch and snacks, comfortable rest mats, and a wide array of art supplies to support creative exploration. Parents are asked to supply sheets, blankets, and a change of clothes for their child’s comfort. The daily schedule is carefully structured to offer a balanced blend of routine and flexibility, seamlessly integrating everyday activities such as lunch and cleanup into valuable learning opportunities. These activities promote independence, encourage positive social interaction, and foster the development of good habits that will benefit them throughout their lives.
Children thrive in our creative and supportive environment where individual achievements are celebrated and encouraged. They develop key skills such as drawing recognizable figures, forming letters correctly, recognizing their names in print, confidently printing their own names, mastering counting skills, and grasping basic math concepts. Each child has a dedicated classroom folder to showcase their artwork and to facilitate important communication with parents. Parents are encouraged to check these folders daily to stay connected with their child’s learning journey.
We aim to promote children together as a class at the start of each new school year, fostering continuity in friendships and providing a comfortable and supportive peer group as they progress through their early education at Holly Springs Learning Center. The teacher-to-student ratio in our Preschool Program is 1:10, ensuring personalized attention and guidance.
Pre-K Program: Building a Foundation for Future Success
Our Pre-K Program is thoughtfully designed to comprehensively prepare children for their first year of Kindergarten by skillfully balancing structured learning with ample opportunities for free exploration and personal growth.
Each day, children actively participate in developmentally appropriate “learning centers” that encourage them to explore their interests, experiment with new ideas, and express their creativity through a diverse range of hands-on activities. These enriching centers encompass math, manipulatives, science exploration, creative art expression, language development, writing practice, music and movement, computer literacy, dramatic play, block building, and sensory experiences with sand and water play. Additionally, our Pre-K curriculum places a strong emphasis on developing essential academic skills in core subjects including math, literacy, writing, reading comprehension, social studies, and science, ensuring a well-rounded preparation for elementary school.
Small group activities are strategically incorporated to help children build crucial social skills and to effectively cater to diverse learning levels within the classroom. Whole-class activities are also integral to the program, working to lengthen attention spans and cultivate a strong sense of classroom community and belonging. Language development is actively encouraged through engaging reading centers, personal writing journals, and interactive circle time discussions. Creative thinking is nurtured and celebrated through art projects and imaginative dramatic play scenarios. Teacher-led activities further enrich lessons in language, math, and science, specifically designed to encourage children to think critically, develop strong reasoning skills, ask thoughtful questions, and confidently solve problems. Throughout the entire Pre-K program, we also focus on developing essential life skills that extend beyond academics, such as active listening, following directions effectively, practicing sharing and cooperation, taking turns respectfully, and learning personal responsibility for their actions. The teacher-to-student ratio in our Pre-K Program is 1:13, providing a supportive and challenging learning environment.
