BlinkLearning is a powerful digital education platform that simplifies how teachers assign and manage homework. This guide provides a comprehensive walkthrough for educators on how to effectively send homework to students using BlinkLearning, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow for both assignment distribution and answer collection. Whether you’re new to the platform or looking to refine your skills, this tutorial will help you leverage BlinkLearning to its full potential for homework management.

Sending Homework from the Class Section

BlinkLearning’s class section is your central hub for homework assignments. Follow these steps to send homework directly from your class:

  1. Login and Access Your Class: Begin by navigating to the BlinkLearning website and logging in with your teacher credentials. Once logged in, go to the “Classes” section in your profile. Ensure you have already created a class containing your students and that relevant learning content is assigned and accessible to them.

  2. Navigate to the Homework Tab: Within your class, locate and click on the “HOMEWORK” tab. If you are creating homework for the first time, click on the “CREATE HOMEWORK” button. Otherwise, click the “+” button to initiate a new homework assignment.

  3. Choose Homework Type: Select the homework type that best fits your objective from the following options:

    1. Link to Activity (SELECT ACTIVITY): Assign a complete BlinkLearning activity.
    2. Exercises Selection (SELECT EXERCISES): Choose specific exercises from different topics.
    3. Deliverable Files (REQUEST HAND IN): Request students to submit homework as files.
  4. Fill in Homework Details and Select Recipients: For any of the chosen options, complete the required fields on the left-hand side, including Title, Deadline, and optionally, a Time limit. On the right-hand side, select the students who should receive the homework. To assign to the entire class, simply click “SELECT ALL”. Click “NEXT” to proceed.

  5. Configure Homework Based on Type: The following steps will vary depending on the homework type you selected:

    • Link to Activity: Use the topic drop-down menu to find and select the specific activity you want to assign. Only one activity can be assigned at a time. Utilize the browser to quickly locate the activity. Once selected, click “NEXT”.

    • Exercises Selection: Choose individual exercises from various topics. Use the topic drop-down to browse and select multiple exercises. The browser tool can assist in finding exercises quickly. After selecting all desired exercises, click “NEXT”.

    • Deliverable Files: Formulate the homework task clearly, providing instructions for students on what they need to submit as a file. After describing the assignment, click “NEXT”.

Sending Homework Directly from the Book

BlinkLearning also allows you to send homework directly from the digital book assigned to your class. This method is particularly useful when you want to assign activities related to specific book content.

  1. Access the Book and Activities: Navigate to the digital book assigned to your class. Within the book, go to the activities section. Look for the “send message” icon, which allows you to assign homework directly from the current activity. Note that this method restricts homework assignment to activities within the book and does not allow for selecting exercises from other topics.

  2. Set Homework Parameters: After clicking the send message icon, a window will appear. Select the Recipients (students), specify the Deadline, set an optional Time limit, and click “OK” to send the homework.

Accessing Homework Links from Messages

Once homework is assigned, BlinkLearning provides convenient ways to access and manage these assignments.

  1. Homework Tab for Exercises Selection Homework: Homework sent using the “EXERCISES SELECTION” option will be listed under the “HOMEWORK” tab in your class profile. This is because these types of assignments are typically gradable, allowing you to view student grades and provide feedback directly within BlinkLearning.

  2. Messages Section for Homework Notifications: BlinkLearning automatically creates a chat group within the “Messages” section for each homework assignment. This group includes a homework notification with a direct link for students to access their assignments. Students can click on this link to start and submit their homework.

  3. Group Messages for Partial Class Assignments: If you’ve assigned homework to only a subset of your class, BlinkLearning will create a specific message group containing only those selected students, ensuring targeted communication and assignment access.

Editing Assigned Homework

Flexibility is key in education, and BlinkLearning allows you to edit certain types of homework assignments after they have been sent.

  1. Edit Options for Deliverable Files and Exercises Selection: You can edit homework assignments that were created using “Deliverable file” or “Exercises Selection” options. These editable assignments appear as blocks under the class’ “HOMEWORK” tab. “Link to activity” homework cannot be edited after sending.

  2. Modify Deadline and Time Limit: Click on the pencil icon on the homework block to activate editing mode. The “Delete” and “Edit” options will then appear. Select “Edit” to change the homework deadline and time limit. After making your changes, click “OK” to save.
