The Department of Microbiology and Immunology, within the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the State University of New York at Buffalo, is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Lecturer to join our faculty. The primary focus of the Lecturer will be directing laboratories for our large undergraduate courses, ensuring a hands-on and engaging educational environment. Additionally, this role includes serving as the Course Director for the Summer Microbiology Course, a vital component of the JSMBS Post-Baccalaureate Program. The successful candidate will have the autonomy to develop lectures and course materials, while also benefiting from the expertise and guidance of our distinguished faculty. Key Responsibilities of the Lecturer:
- Directing and managing large undergraduate laboratories, ensuring a safe and effective learning space.
- Maintaining laboratory resources, including chemicals, biological materials, and supplies, adhering to safety protocols.
- Supervising student workers and support staff within the laboratory settings.
- Developing, reviewing, and updating procedures for all laboratory courses to maintain high standards.
- Creating and delivering engaging lectures, laboratory sessions, videos, and associated teaching materials for undergraduate and graduate courses across Fall, Spring, and Summer sessions. This includes designing exam questions and handouts, optimized for delivery through platforms like UB Learns Brightspace.
- Utilizing the UB Learns Brightspace online learning platform for course management, content delivery, and student interaction.
- Proctoring examinations to ensure academic integrity.
- Grading assignments and entering grades into the HUB system, maintaining accurate student records.
- Analyzing course evaluations to identify areas for improvement and implement effective changes.
- Contributing to the development of new courses, bringing innovative teaching methods to the curriculum.
- Acting as a liaison with University offices, particularly the Office of Accessibility Resources, to ensure inclusive and accessible learning environments for all students.
- Staying current in the field of microbiology and immunology through continuous professional development, including attending departmental seminars, thesis defenses, and relevant training sessions.
