The U.S. Army has officially launched ATIS Learning, a cutting-edge enterprise learning management system (LMS) designed to revolutionize digital learning across the force. This new platform, spearheaded by the Program Executive Office Enterprise Information Systems (PEO EIS), serves as the Army’s primary hub for asynchronous online education, marking a significant leap forward in military training technology.
Replacing the two-decade-old Army Learning Management System (ALMS), ATIS Learning represents a substantial upgrade to the Army’s digital learning infrastructure. ALMS, despite a 2019 update, had become outdated. Over its lifespan, it was the mandatory training portal for every Soldier, civilian, and Army contractor. In the past year alone, ALMS hosted over 600 unique courses, catering to nearly 1.5 million users, demonstrating the critical role of a robust army learning management system.
ATIS Learning is engineered to provide a more intuitive and efficient LMS experience. Soldiers and Army civilians can now seamlessly access, manage, and complete their required online training within a modern environment. Key enhancements of this army learning management system include:
- Modernized User Interface: ATIS Learning boasts a visually updated interface with enhanced visual cues and consistent button and icon design, making navigation more user-friendly.
- Improved Course Discovery: The new system simplifies course finding with advanced search options, allowing learners to filter mandatory and elective courses by type, category, or name. This enhanced search capability is crucial for efficient army learning management.
- Streamlined Course Completion Reporting: Users can now easily access, download, and email their training certificates directly from the homepage, simplifying record-keeping and reporting processes within the army learning management system.
“ATIS Learning is the inaugural capability emerging from the ATIS objective environment,” stated Tim Hale, Product Manager for ATIS at PEO EIS. “We have developed an army learning management system poised to serve the U.S. Army well into the 21st century, effectively supporting the evolving demands of a modern fighting force.”
The launch of ATIS Learning is just the first step in the ATIS product office’s broader modernization efforts. This summer, selected units will have the opportunity to preview and provide feedback on enhanced Digital Job Book and Small Unit Leader tools. These applications will empower Soldiers and leaders at the platoon level and below with improved capabilities for viewing and inputting data related to the Army Combat Fitness Test, weapons qualifications, individual tasks, and body composition. Critically, this data will automatically integrate with the Digital Training Management System, further streamlining army learning management processes.
ATIS development leverages Agile software development methodologies, enabling continuous delivery of new features and improvements as they become available. Looking ahead to 2024 and beyond, ATIS is committed to ongoing development and release of applications and products that will fundamentally transform how the Army manages, inputs, and utilizes training data and information, solidifying its position as a leading army learning management system.
