Haven Early Learning, formerly known as the Early Learning Center (ELC) at CT State Community College, provides a nurturing and enriching educational experience for children aged 2.8 to 5 years old in New Haven, Connecticut. This nationally accredited lab school offers a variety of instructional models, flexible scheduling, and financial aid options to support families.

Haven Early Learning: Diverse Approaches to Education

Haven Early Learning offers a full-day preschool program, operating from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm daily. The center’s curriculum is designed to foster each child’s individual growth and development through hands-on, sensory experiences. Parents can choose from three distinct instructional models:

Reggio Inspired Approach at Haven Early Learning

This approach encourages children to express themselves through a variety of mediums, often referred to as the “hundred languages.” These include art, music, dramatic play, storytelling, and collaborative projects, fostering creativity and communication skills.

Montessori Inspired Approach

This model emphasizes independence, hands-on learning, and a carefully prepared environment. Children are encouraged to explore and discover at their own pace, developing crucial problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Literature Inspired Approach

This approach focuses on language development, including vocabulary building, listening comprehension, and phonological awareness. Through engaging with literature, children develop a love of reading and a strong foundation for future academic success.

Haven Early Learning: A History of Excellence

Established in 1983 by Dr. Earnestine Kirkland and Susan Logston, Haven Early Learning was initially designed as a training site for preschool teachers and a provider of quality childcare. It continues to serve as a valuable learning resource for students in various programs at CT State Community College, including Early Childhood Education, Human Services, and Psychology.

Tuition and Financial Aid at Haven Early Learning

Haven Early Learning offers various tuition rates and financial aid options to make its program accessible to all families:

  • Community: $275 per week
  • Full-time Students: $175 per week (requires enrollment in at least 3 credits at CT State Community College)
  • New Haven Residents: Sliding fee scale and partial scholarships are available through the School Readiness Grant.
