Once you’ve assigned engaging activities to your students on Legends of Learning, the platform provides robust tools to track their progress and performance. You can monitor student engagement in real-time as they play, or review comprehensive results after an assignment is completed. This article will guide you through both scenarios, empowering you to leverage data to enhance your teaching strategy with Legends of Learning.
Monitoring Student Progress in Real-Time with Legends of Learning
To observe student progress as it happens during a live Legends of Learning assignment, navigate to the “Active Assignments” section on your Legends of Learning home screen. Simply click on the name of the specific assignment you wish to monitor. This action will take you directly to the Student Data page, providing a live feed of student progress and performance metrics.
At the top of the Student Data page, the “Activities” bar presents a snapshot of all activities within the assigned playlist. Clicking on an individual game tile within this bar reveals more detailed information about that specific activity, allowing you to focus on particular learning objectives.
Below the Activities bar, the “Student Table” offers a comprehensive view of each student’s progress and performance in the assignment. This table is dynamically updated, providing real-time insights as students engage with the Legends of Learning games.
For each student who has started the assignment, the Student Table displays their avatar and name for easy identification.
Next to each student’s avatar, a status indicator provides immediate insight into their current engagement level:
- Green Triangle: Indicates the student is actively playing the Legends of Learning assignment and engaged with the game.
- Red Octagon: Signals that the student is not actively playing. This could mean they have navigated to another browser tab or are inactive within the assignment window.
- Grey Circle: Shows that the student’s status is unknown, likely because they have signed out of the Legends of Learning assignment.
The Student Data Table further breaks down progress by activity. For each activity within the assignment, a purple progress bar visually represents how far a student has advanced.
- Hovering over an activity reveals a pop-up overview of student statistics for that specific game, including playtime and completion status. This allows for a quick assessment of student engagement and pace within each learning activity in Legends of Learning.
The Student Table also displays the “Start Date” and “Playtime” for each student’s overall assignment engagement, giving you a sense of time spent on the learning activities.
The Progress Wheel provides a quick visual of the overall assignment completion percentage for each student.
Important Note: The Progress Wheel reflects completion, not the student’s grade or performance score. For performance grades, refer to the performance reports detailed below.
For each student, you’ll find three interactive buttons offering immediate actions:
- Skip: This button allows you to advance a student to the next activity in the assignment. You can use this multiple times if needed to guide student pacing through Legends of Learning. Skipped activities are reflected in the activity completion status when hovering over the activity icon.
- Restart: The Restart button forces a student to begin the entire assignment again. Use with caution! This action clears all existing student data for the assignment, resetting their progress to the beginning.
- Performance: Clicking the Performance button generates an individual student performance report. This report provides detailed insights into student responses to each question within assessments and Quiz Games included in the Legends of Learning assignment, along with a grade for each assessed activity.
For a class-wide performance overview, click the Question Results button located at the top right of the Student Table.
The Question Results Report provides a comprehensive class grade for the assignment, the percentage of students who answered each question correctly, and grades for each assessment or Quiz Game integrated within the Legends of Learning playlist.
For a deeper dive into specific questions, click the expand arrow to the left of any question to see a breakdown of student responses. This feature in Legends of Learning helps pinpoint areas where students might be struggling collectively.
The Question Results Report can be filtered to display data for specific student groups or searched for individual students by name, allowing for targeted analysis of student performance within Legends of Learning.
Managing Live Legends of Learning Assignments: Essential Tools
The top of the Student Data page also provides several management tools to control the live Legends of Learning assignment:
The Pause button temporarily freezes student screens, effectively pausing the assignment for all students. This is a useful feature to regain student attention during class while they are engaged with Legends of Learning.
The End button completely stops the assignment for all students. If needed, you can Restart the assignment after ending it.
The Edit Assignment option, located in the top right corner, allows you to modify the assignment name, dates, and the student groups assigned to it. This flexibility in Legends of Learning ensures assignments can be easily adjusted as needed.
Also in the top right, the Student Instructions option provides a pop-up with directions for students to log in and access the assignment.
You can select the preferred login method for your students from the available options displayed in the Student Instructions pop-up in Legends of Learning.
To provide students or parents with login details, use the ‘Download Instructions’ button. This downloads a file containing student-specific login information for the Legends of Learning assignment.
The More menu offers additional actions for managing your Legends of Learning assignment and student data.
- Send Link to Google Classroom: Directly assign the Legends of Learning activity to students within Google Classroom.
- Send Scores to Google Classroom: Share current student scores for the assignment to Google Classroom.
- Download Scores CSV: Download student scores and question results as a .csv file for offline record-keeping and analysis.
- Preview as a Student: Experience the Legends of Learning assignment from a student’s perspective to understand their learning experience firsthand.
