Unlocking the Unforgivable: Avada Kedavra
Avada Kedavra is the final unforgivable curse learned through Sebastian Sallow’s companion questline. It becomes available during the quest “In the Shadow of the Relic,” recommended for level 28 players.
Before embarking on this quest, you must complete:
- In the Shadow of Hope: A prerequisite relationship quest with Sebastian Sallow.
- Lodgok’s Loyalty: A main story quest that must be finished before accessing “In the Shadow of the Relic.”

Near the end of “In the Shadow of the Relic,” a conversation with Sebastian outside the dungeon presents a crucial decision:
- No one should know that curse.
- Everyone should know that curse.
To learn Avada Kedavra, choose “Everyone should know that curse.” Sebastian will then offer to teach you the spell, prompting another choice:
- Now is not the time.
- Yes please.
Select “Yes please” to finally learn Avada Kedavra.

Second Chances: Learning Avada Kedavra Later
Missed the opportunity initially? You can still learn Avada Kedavra later if specific choices are made.
During the following quest, “In the Shadow of Fate,” a conversation with Ominis Gaunt offers another critical decision:
- We should turn Sebastian in.
- We must not turn Sebastian in.
Choose “We must not turn Sebastian in” to keep the possibility of learning the curse alive. After completing Sebastian’s entire relationship questline, you can find him in the Undercroft. He will then offer to teach you any unforgivable curses you haven’t yet learned, including Avada Kedavra.

Consequences of Using the Killing Curse
Hogwarts Legacy lacks a morality system. Therefore, using Avada Kedavra carries no in-game penalties. However, certain companions, such as Natsai, Ominis, and Amit, will react negatively to its use. This disapproval doesn’t affect relationships or the overall story progression.
