Lexia Learning Systems LLC is dedicated to protecting your privacy and maintaining the trust of our users. This privacy policy explains how we handle personal information within our educational products and services, offered to schools and districts. We are committed to safeguarding the data of students, children, and all users who engage with Lexia Learning. This document outlines our practices regarding the collection, use, sharing, and security of your personal information, and details your options for accessing and updating this data. Our data handling is always limited to providing and improving the educational services our school and district partners have entrusted to Lexia Learning.
This policy applies specifically to Lexia’s educational Software as a Service (SaaS) products and related services, including the website www.mylexia.com (the “Site”) and the MyLexia mobile application (collectively, the “Service”).
Understanding the Information We Collect and Its Use
Lexia Learning processes personal data of students, staff, and other users under agreements with our school and district clients. In these relationships, Lexia acts as a data processor, operating on behalf of the educational institutions who are the data controllers. Individuals seeking to access, correct, amend, or delete their data should first contact their school or district, which manages their Lexia Learning access. If the data controller requests data removal, Lexia Learning will respond promptly.
We retain personal data only as long as necessary to deliver our services, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements with clients.
Types of Information Collected
Lexia Learning collects personal information directly from you and from your school or district when accounts are created for administrators, teachers, and students. We are committed to collecting only the information necessary for the specified purposes. “Personal information” includes data that can identify you directly, or indirectly through identifiers like IP addresses or unique identifiers, and any other information defined as personal under applicable law.
For teachers and administrators, this includes:
- Full Name
- Email Address
- School Affiliation
For students, this includes:
- Full Name
- User ID
- School Affiliation
Schools and districts may optionally provide additional student data, including:
- Gender
- Birth Date
- Ethnicity
- Special Education Status
- Instructional Language
- Free Lunch Program Participation
- Title 1 Status
This optional data enhances the educational experience and is used solely to support the intended purpose. Lexia Learning may use de-identified data, where personal information is removed, for lawful purposes such as product improvement, research, and statistical analysis.
When you use our mobile application, we automatically collect technical information such as:
- Mobile Device Type
- Operating System Version
- Device Identifier (UDID)
We do not access or track location-based information from your mobile device.

Lexia Learning and Children’s Privacy
Lexia Learning is deeply committed to protecting the privacy of children.
Information Collected from Children Under 13
Children under 13 access Lexia Learning programs through student accounts, typically set up by their school or by Lexia Learning using school-provided information. The minimum required information for a student account is:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Username

Some Lexia Learning programs utilize Speech Recognition Engine (SRE) technology. In these exercises, students may be asked to speak words or phrases into a microphone. The SRE creates “Sound Logs,” which are audio files of these spoken words, to assess pronunciation accuracy and track progress. Sound Logs are used to improve our services and product quality but are never used to identify individual students. After a school’s subscription ends, Sound Logs are de-identified and separated from student accounts.
Parental Consent and COPPA Compliance
Lexia Learning operates under the principle that schools provide consent for the collection of student information for educational purposes, as permitted by COPPA and other relevant laws. Teachers and school administrators, by creating student accounts, authorize Lexia Learning to process student data to deliver the program. Children under 13 cannot create their own accounts, and parents do not have administrative access to the system.
FERPA Compliance and Student Data Protection
Lexia Learning complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) and all applicable state student records privacy laws. When we handle student data from schools and districts, we act as a “school official” under FERPA. We use student data only to fulfill our service agreements and do not disclose it except as required by the agreement, law, or with school authorization.
Student Data Input and Program Participation
Students cannot directly enter personal information into Lexia Learning programs. School personnel or Lexia Learning staff acting on their behalf manage student data entry. While students cannot input personal details, the Lexia Learning program collects and stores student performance and progress data linked to their accounts, which is crucial for monitoring their educational journey.
Student accounts, requiring minimal personal information, are essential for accessing Lexia Learning programs and tracking individual progress.
Sharing Children’s Information with Third Parties
Lexia Learning does not share children’s personal information with unrelated third parties, except as legally required, as outlined in this policy (e.g., with Affiliated Businesses), or at the direction of the school.
Parental and Guardian Choices
Lexia Learning collects student information under the direction of school clients and does not have direct relationships with individual students or parents. Parents wishing to limit data collection or review their child’s information should first contact their child’s school. Schools, as Lexia Learning’s direct clients, are best positioned to manage student data and verify parental identity.
Upon a school’s written request or from a confirmed parent or guardian, Lexia Learning will provide an inventory of stored personal information and facilitate review, correction, or removal, within legal limitations. We respond to inquiries within 30 days. Contact information is provided at the end of this policy.

Fraud Prevention
To protect against fraud, theft, and harm, we may share personal information with law enforcement and other organizations committed to respecting this privacy policy.
